Norwegian Literature Book Club in Athens

It is our pleassure to share and support Krystalli Glyniadaki's initiative to create a book club on Norwegian literature for our Greek speaking friends, at the charming and hospitable Zatopek Book Café in Kallithea (P. Tsaldari 209, Kallithea 176 76).

The club started last March and will go through spring 2025. Join us as we explore a diverse selection of Norwegian literature, spanning various eras, settings, and themes.

– I’ve been wanting to run a book club focused on Norwegian literature for the longest time, Glyniadakis says.

She is a translator of Norwegian and English literature into Greek, with more than 30 books under her belt. She’s worked as a head editor for several publishing houses in Athens, Greece, as well as for the Norwegian Embassy for a brief while.

Furthermore, she’s an award winning poet (Greece’s State Prize in Literature 2018) and has written opinion columns, long reads, and culture articles for Norwegian and Greek media – among them Dagbladet, Agenda Magazine, Athens Voice, and Sunday’s VIMA. She holds a PhD in Online Interactive Historical Documentary from Bournemouth University, UK.

– We try to add a variety of literary genres and writers, so that the participants can get accounted not just with classic and contemporary Norwegian literature, but, crucially, with the evolution –if that is the right word.

The focus throughout the book club, is on the aspects of Norwegian political and cultural history, and how it has influenced Norwegian literature and writers from the late C19 to today.
