The Tree Is Lit

On the evening of Monday, November 28, Norwegians and Americans alike gathered together at Union Station for the 25th annual Norwegian Christmas Tree Lighting.

The Christmas tree that is lit each year is a gift from Norway to the United States, in thanks for its assistance and allyship during World War II. It is presented alongside a variety of performers and musical acts each holiday season. This year, the performances included the East of the River Steelband, the folk-Americana trio Wicked Sycamore, cross-genre vocalist Rayshun LaMarr, and all-female Norwegian brass ensemble TenThing.

Ambassador Anniken Krutnes offered remarks, as did Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce (NACC) Mid-Atlantic Chapter President Idar Voldnes and Washington Performing Arts President and CEO Jenny Bilfield. Additionally, Santa and Mrs. Claus were present to wish guests happy holidays.

The Embassy thanks our partners in organizing this event: Washington Performing Arts, NACC (Mid-Atlantic Chapter), and Union Station DC.
