Norwegian Tall Ship in Puerto Rico

The Norwegian tall ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl recently visited Puerto Rico on one of the final legs of the One Ocean Expedition.

It arrived in Ponce, Puerto Rico on March 11. The ship is finalizing its circumnavigation of the globe as a part of the One Ocean Expedition, which aims to share knowledge about the crucial role of the sea. It has been sailing around the world over the course of the past eighteen months.

Ambassador Krutnes, along with the Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González-Colón and a team from the Embassy, visited the ship while it was berthed in Ponce.

The Norwegian Naval Academy is currently using the ship as a part of basic training for their naval cadets. A total of 74 cadets have spent three months on board to learn more about seamanship and leadership, as well as team-building.

The ship is now bound for Bergen, Norway, and is set to arrive on April 15. To celebrate the return of the Statsraad Lehmkuhl, a six-day One Ocean Week festival will be held.
