The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Abu Dhabi is looking for a qualified and highly motivated visa officer to join its visa team before summer 2026. The vacancy is a full-time position on a two-year contract with possible renewals depending on performance and availability of funds.
The Embassy is a regional visa hub and handles applications for visa and residence permits from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Yemen. In addition, we receive applications for residence permit from Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman.
In July 2026 our region will expand as we will take on responsibility for visa and residence permits submitted in Algeria and Egypt also.
Therefore, we are seeking to strengthen our visa team with a skilled and high performing colleague, who portrays a keen interest in the visa and immigration field and who is committed to delivering high quality standards of service. We are looking for someone with at least two years of relevant work experience.
Duties and responsibilities
The visa officer will be expected to carry out the following tasks:
- Receive and register applications for Schengen visas, residence cases and other permits
- Perform control of persons and documents (ID control)
- Print visa stickers and distribute decisions
- Organizing and filing
- Communication with our customers and providing information to the public
- Conduct interviews and verify information/documents
- Perform DNA tests of applicants
- Other tasks as instructed by line manager
Qualifications
The following qualifications are absolute requirements:
- Fluency (written and oral) in English in addition to at least one other language relevant to the region
- Proficiency in computer software programs such as Microsoft Office, Word and Excel
- Relevant higher education (e.g. university degree). Long and relevant experience may compensate for higher education
- Relevant work experience (equivalent to 2 years minimum)
The following qualifications will be an advantage:
- Proficiency in French
- Proficiency in Dari/Hazaragi, Arabic, Urdu, Pashto or other regional languages and dialects. Language tests will be performed.
- Good knowledge of legal framework and politico-socio and cultural situation in one or more of the following countries: Afghanistan, Pakistan, UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Algeria and Egypt.
- Knowledge of Schengen regulations and related work experience with visa applications
