Extended Deadline for Itaewon Disaster Victim Recognition Applications

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety of the Republic of Korea has been accepting applications for victim recognition since April 1, 2025, in accordance with the Special Act on Protection of Rights of Sufferers, Truth-Finding, and Prevention of Recurrence of the October 29 Itaewon Disaster. To ensure that a larger number of affected individuals can receive support, the South Korean government has amended the law to extend key deadlines and strengthen recovery measures.

The application period for victim recognition and living support grants has now been extended until March 15, 2027, while applications for recovery leave can be submitted until September 15, 2027. In addition, the maximum recovery leave period has been extended from 6 months to 12 months, subject to medical evaluation.

Norwegian citizens who may have been affected, but have not yet applied are encouraged to review the application process and eligibility criteria on the official website: https://www.mois.go.kr/frt/sub/a06/b13/applyItaewonENG01/screen.do
