The Norwegian Embassy in Seoul is seeking a qualified individual to support the embassy’s work on political affairs. The full-time (100%) position will support the embassy’s monitoring, analysis and reporting on domestic, foreign and security policy, and contribute to building and maintaining networks, to support Norway-South Korea exchange and cooperation.

Job title: Officer (Political Affairs)

Job type: full-time, (six months~permanent)

Job description:

  • Monitoring of South Korean domestic legislative and political developments
  • Monitoring of South Korea’s external relations and global engagement
  • Monitor inter-Korean and North Korean developments
  • Support analysis and reporting on the domestic, foreign and security policies of South Korea
  • Liaise with South Korean government institutions (incl. MOFA, National Assembly, etc.), think tanks, and academic institutions
  • Lead on visiting programmes for institutional delegations
  • Support visiting programmes for public officials and official delegations

Regular contact with South Korean government and other institutions will be part of the job.

The embassy works as a team. All members are required to undertake other duties from time to time.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Positive attitude, enthusiasm, honesty, and reliability
  • University degree (preferably within a relevant major)
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications (Teams, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
  • English language level: native/fluent
  • Korean language level: native/fluent

In contact with external actors, all embassy staff are an extension of the embassy and are expected to behave accordingly. 

The successful candidate must be able to prepare documentation or presentations for the embassy’s external engagements, to accompany the Ambassador and at times other diplomatic staff, and to act as translator (English/Korean) for smaller meetings. 

Qualified candidates with 3-5 years work experience in a relevant field will be reviewed favourably.

About the Norwegian Embassy: The Norwegian Embassy in Seoul represents Norwegian interests in the Republic of Korea. The embassy is headed by the Ambassador supported by four diplomatic and eight local staff. Additionally, the embassy shares office space with Innovation Norway, acting as the commercial section of the embassy, and the Norwegian Seafood Council. The embassy values work-life balance and seeks to foster and maintain a learning environment for all staff.

Woking hours: 40 hours per week (including 1 hour lunch break per full work day). Occasional overtime may be required, for which time off in lieu is given.

Salary: Minimum KRW 3,500,000-/month ~ higher based on qualifications/experience. (Salary review annually)

Allowance: KRW 60,000-/month

Holiday: 25 days/year after 12 months

Staff are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local employment law. In certain cases, Norwegian law may also apply.
