Singapore and Norway – Working together for the Environment

H.E. Eivind Homme, Ambassador of Norway to Singapore, met H.E. Grace Fu, Singapore's Minister of Sustainability and the Environment on 16 February 2022. The key areas covered were Smart Cities, Circular Economy and Recycling, Carbon Capture and Storage, as well as Green Shipping and Decarbonization.

On Wednesday 16 February, H.E. Ambassador Homme paid a courtesy call on H.E. Grace Fu, Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment. During the meeting, the Ambassador was pleased to convey warm greetings from Minister Fu’s Norwegian counterpart Mr. Espen Barth Eide, Minister of Climate and the Environment, along with his thanks for their splendid cooperation during the global climate summit COP 26 in Glasgow last year.  
 
In Glasgow, the two Ministers were tasked with facilitating the negotiations on finalizing the “rulebook” for global carbon markets from the Paris agreement, in its essential Article 6. A very demanding and important task, which they accomplished. 
 
The Ambassador’s meeting with the Minister also covered implementation of the Singapore Green Plan 2030, including discussions on how our two countries and our companies can work together to achieve green transformation and sustainability.  
 
Some of the key areas covered were Smart Cities, Circular Economy and Recycling, Carbon Capture and Storage, as well as Green Shipping and Decarbonization. The conversation also touched upon Sustainable Ocean Management and ASEAN environmental cooperationas well as the UN Fifth Environmental Assembly starting on 28 February, where Norway and Singapore hope for a decision to establish a negotiation committee for a global agreement on marine litter and plastic pollution. 
 
The meeting confirmed that Norway and Singapore are green partners, at home and on the international stage.
