The Government of Norway has decided to close the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Lilongwe by the end of July 2027.
This has not been an easy decision. This closure reflects a broader reassessment of Norway’s foreign and development policy priorities and how we deploy our diplomatic and development resources globally.
Norway and Malawi have worked side by side for decades to support development, strengthen institutions and create opportunities for communities across the country. We are proud of what has been achieved through these partnerships and deeply thankful to everyone who has contributed along the way.
The Embassy will remain operational until July 2027. We will continue our work and cooperation as usual throughout the transistion period, and Norway will honour its existing agreements and commitments.
We look forward to continuing our work together in the months ahead.
