About the Embassy
The Embassy is among Norway’s largest diplomatic missions globally, with 17 posted staff and 33 locally employed staff. It also hosts Innovation Norway, the Norwegian government’s official trade representative, with 2 posted and 8 locally employed staff. In addition to India, the Embassy covers Sri Lanka, Bhutan and the Maldives. The Embassy has expanded its staff and activities in recent years, reflecting the growing importance of bilateral relations between India and Norway. The position as Adviser will be part of the Political Team, which has the primary responsibilities for the Embassy’s work on political affairs, and communication and culture. The Embassy is located on Shantipath, in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi.

Responsibilities and tasks
- Monitor and analyse developments in Indian domestic politics, including national and state-level political dynamics, policy priorities, governance issues and wider societal trends.
- Build and maintain networks and support the Embassy’s dialogue with relevant stakeholders in government, civil society, academia, media, think tanks and the private sector.
- Prepare political assessments, reports and briefings.
- Support the planning and implementation of meetings, events and official visits.
- Manage grants and follow up the Embassy’s cooperation with local partners in India.
- Support the Embassy’s work on communications and culture.
- Occasional work-related travel can be expected.
- Tasks and responsibilities may change subject to the Embassy’s needs and priorities.
Required qualifications
- Master’s degree in political science, international relations, economics, political economy or a related field. Extensive and relevant experience can compensate for this requirement.
- Minimum five years of relevant work experience.
- Good networking abilities and an established network among relevant Indian stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of Indian domestic politics, public policy and political institutions.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
Desirable qualifications
- Spoken and written fluency in Hindi.
- Knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language.
- Experience with grant management.
- International experience from work or studies abroad.

Terms and conditions
- Competitive salary, based on qualifications and relevant experience.
- 25 days annual paid leave.
- 11 official holidays, as defined by the Embassy.
- Working hours: Monday-Thursday, 08:30-16:30; Friday, 08:30-14:00.
- Work outside regular working hours is compensated.
- The selected applicant is eligible for a permanent employment contract as local staff at the Embassy, subject to a 3-month probationary period and satisfactory medical check.
- The Embassy adheres to Indian law with respect to employment rights.
- Social security benefits will be in accordance with the social security legislation in India.
- Indian residency or a valid work permit is required.
- Commencement: mid-September 2026.
