Historic decision taken to stop plastic pollution at UNEA

The world together has moved closer to the motto: #beatplasticpollution! Together with India and more than 170 countries, we are extremely pleased at the passing of the historic resolution to deal with #plasticpollution.

The decision was taken at the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA 5.2) in Nairobi to end plastic pollution and create an international legally binding agreement by 2024. An international negotiation committee will be created for this purpose.

Norway and India work closely together on the Norway-India marine pollution initiative. Under the initiative, projects on capacity building, improving research capacity to test plastic and chemical pollution, awareness campaigns for citizen participation and building capacity of municipal corporations on circular economy are taken up.
