Position of Business Promotion Adviser at the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in Mumbai

The Royal Norwegian Consulate General in Mumbai is a diplomatic mission representing Norway in the three states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa. The position will support Norwegian companies and institutions by advancing market access, identifying commercial opportunities and facilitating long-term partnerships between Norwegian and Indian stakeholders, with particular emphasis on energy, maritime and shipping, and circular economy. The Adviser will play a central role in delivering the Consulate General’s core mandate of business promotion and will work in close coordination with Team Norway partners in India.

Role and Responsibilities

The Business Promotion Adviser is expected to operate as a strategic and operational focal point for Norway–India business relations in Western India. The role requires both proactive outreach and analytical capability, combining market development, stakeholder management and high-quality reporting.

Key responsibilities include:

• Business Development and Market Facilitation Actively identify, assess and pursue commercial opportunities for Norwegian companies in the region. In close collaboration with Innovation Norway, provide practical support to companies seeking to enter, expand or partner in the Indian market, including introductions, guidance on market conditions, and navigation of local business and regulatory environments.

• Stakeholder and Network Management Develop and maintain a strong network of senior contacts within Indian companies, industry associations, investors, regulators and public authorities, as well as among Norwegian companies and institutions. The Adviser is expected to cultivate long-term relationships that generate concrete commercial outcomes.

• Sectoral Expertise Maintain in-depth awareness of developments, trends and policy frameworks in various sectors. Provide sector-specific advice and analysis to Norwegian stakeholders and to the Consulate General’s management.

• Coordination within Team Norway Work closely with Innovation Norway, the Royal Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi, the Norwegian Business Association in India (NBAI) and the Norway–India Chamber of Commerce and Industry to ensure coherent, effective and targeted business promotion efforts. • Events, Delegations and High-Level Engagements Plan, organise and support business delegations, B2B meetings, conferences,

seminars and official visits. Contribute substantively to briefing materials, agendas and follow-up activities to ensure that engagements result in measurable business outcomes.

• Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Systematically monitor market developments, regulatory changes, investment trends and policy initiatives relevant to Norwegian commercial interests. Prepare high-quality written reports, analyses and recommendations for internal use and for Norwegian stakeholders.

• Representation Represent the Consulate General in meetings, industry forums and public events in a professional and authoritative manner, strengthening Norway’s profile as a reliable and forward-looking business partner.

• Regional Travel Travel within Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa, and elsewhere in India as required, to support business promotion activities.

Qualifications:

• A master's degree in business administration, economics, international relations, public policy or another relevant field. A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in business development, trade promotion, consulting, sector development or a closely related area is preferable. Experience relevant for business promotion, preferably within the key thematic focus areas of the Consulate General energy, circular economy, maritime.

• Fluency in spoken and written English and Hindi is required. Knowledge of a nordic language will be an asset.

• Knowledge from an international job culture, and of Nordic countries and Scandinavian culture will be an advantage.

• Experience in the use of digital tools in a professional context, particularly Microsoft 365.

Terms and conditions

• The Consulate General follows Indian law with respect to employment rights

• Competitive salary in accordance with education and experience

• Working days; Monday-Friday 08.30-16.00.

• 25 days annual leave.

• Coverage of insurance and actual medical costs on a 80/20 ratio.

• Duration of the probationary period: 6 months

• Duration of notice period: 1 month during the probationary period and 3 months after the probationary period.

A Police verification certificate is mandatory upon selection. For applicants who are not Indian citizens, a certificate of legal status in India must be submitted.
