Jewish History in Norway and Combatting Antisemitism
Norwegian Jews and the Holocaust: Norwegian Righteous Among the Nations
On 9 April 1940 Norway was attacked by Nazi Germany. The German occupation of Norway lasted until the war ended in Europe, 8 May 1945.
Reviving Jewish cultural heritage in Europe and combatting anti-Semitism
Norway has for many years supported preservation of Jewish cultural heritage in Europe and has financed projects for around EUR 49 million as part of our contribution to the EU over the past 20 years. This includes both the restoration of synagogues, the preservation of Jewish cemeteries, the dissemination of Jewish culture and the fight against antisemitism.
Action Plan Against Antisemitism
Antisemitism is a global phenomenon, and combatting antisemitism is part of Norway’s foreign policy. Norway has been proactive in our fight to combat antisemitism nationally as well as internationally. We were among the first countries in Europe to develop an action plan against antisemitism in 2016.
