Visitor’s visa and residence permit

A visitor's visa allows you to stay in Norway or other Schengen countries for up to 90 days over a period of 180 days. A residence permit gives you the opportunity to work in Norway and to stay for more than 90 days.

Citizens of Iran must a apply for a visitor's visa. Likewise, citizens of Iran need a residence permit in order to work or to take up residence for longer than 90 days.

All applicants are advised to apply for a visa or residence permit at the VFS application center in Teheran. It is mandatory to book an appointment.

Please note that as of March 4th 2024, all applications from Iran will be handled by the Norwegian Embassy in Ankara. If you have applied through the Norwegian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, your application will be finalized by the Embassy in Ankara. This change will have no impact on how the application is handled. 

Interviews: Interviews are being conducted through videolink at the VFS Application Centers. If you are waiting for an interview, please note that the Embassy will contact you to schedule the appointment once it is your turn.

DNA-tests: DNA-tests are being performed in some cases. The Norwegian Embassy in Teheran will contact the applicant to schedule a date for the DNA-sampling.

Please note that The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway has a global agreement with VFS Global regarding receiving applications for visa and residence permits, answering phone calls and answering e-mails on behalf of Norwegian Embassies.
