The Embassy issues passports for Norwegian citizens abroad
Below is important information regarding passports and emergency passports.
Application for a new passport
Applications for passports are possible only by appointment. To schedule an appointment, please send an email to consular.brussels@mfa.no.
The Consulate is open for appointments Monday to Thursday between 10:00 and 12:00. Please make your appointment well in advance, as the Consulate is usually fully booked two weeks ahead.
How does the appointment process for a new passport work?
When you arrive at the embassy, check in at the reception by stating that you have an appointment for a new passport and provide your surname. When it's your turn, we will start by verifying your identification to ensure the correct person is applying for the new passport. During the passport appointment, we will take your photo and collect fingerprints and your signature if you are over 12 years old.
There are different fees for different categories of passports. Please see below for more information.
The passport is produced in Norway and sent by mail to the Embassy. To collect your new passport, the old one must be submitted for shredding. You may keep the old shredded passport if desired. If you live in Belgium and have a long journey, you can opt to have your passport sent to one of our honorary consuls. These individuals, specifically selected to provide certain services for Norway, will arrange a time for you to collect your new passport and, if necessary, shred the old one. We have honorary consuls in:
- Antwerp
- Liège
- Zeebrugge
You can find more information about our honorary consuls here:
3 norske konsulater i Belgia - Norway in Belgium
It takes around two weeks for passport delivery. Additional time should be considered if you want the passport sent through one of our honorary consuls.
Remember, children under 18 must attend with both parents to give consent for the issuance of a new passport. If one parent has already given permanent consent for the child's passport until they turn 18, only one parent needs to attend with the child.

National ID card
The embassy only issues passports and emergency passports. This means we do not issue national ID cards. For national ID cards, you must contact the passport authority in Norway.
My passport has been stolen- what should I do?
If your passport has been stolen, you must first report this to the police in the location where it was lost. After that, contact the embassy to report the lost passport and potentially apply for a new one.
