Do I need to appear in person?
Anyone applying for a new passport must appear in person at the Embassy. This is because biometric data such as photos, fingerprints, and signatures need to be collected at the Embassy.
When is the passport ready?
You can collect your passport at the embassy approximately two weeks after application.
What should I do if I’ve changed my name?
If you have changed your name, it must also be updated in the National Population Register. The name in your passport is based on the name you are registered under. If you change your name, you will also need to change your passport. Information on name changes
What should I bring?
If you live in Belgium, you need to bring:
- Valid or expired passport. If your passport has expired, you may need additional documentation such as a driver’s license to verify your identity.
- Valid Belgian residence card.
- Are you a Belgian citizen? Bring your Belgian passport or ID card.
If you live in other countries than Norway and Belgium, you need to bring:
- Valid or expired passport. If your passport has expired, you may need additional documentation such as a driver’s license to verify your identity.
- Valid residence card from the country you live in (a residence certificate or excerpt from the population register is also accepted).
- Are you a dual citizen? Bring the passport or ID card from the other country where you hold citizenship.
Is your passport stolen/lost?
Bring a police report from the local police (if the passport was stolen).
I have never had a Norwegian passport before
Bring:
- Norwegian personal number
- Valid passport or ID card from another country, or a birth certificate.
Duration and expiry date
The duration of the passport and ID card depends on your age. The expiration date will be indicated in the passport.
Children 0 to 5 years: 2 years
Children 5 to 10 years: 3 years
Children 10 to 16 years: 5 years
Over 16 years: 10 years
