Visitor’s visa and residence permit

A visitor's visa allows you to stay in Norway or other Schengen countries for up to 90 days over a period of 180 days. A residence permit gives you the opportunity to work in Norway and to stay for more than 90 days.

Citizens of Finland do not need a visitor's visa or a residence permit, but if you plan to stay longer than 90 days, you must register with the police.

If you are a citizen of an EU/EEA country or Switzerland, you do not need a residence permit, but must register with the police within three months of arriving in Norway.

The Norwegian embassy in Finland does no longer handle applications for visa and residence permits. Please contact one of the following embassies regarding such applications: Copenhagen (Denmark), Stockholm (Sweden), The Hague (Netherlands), Madrid (Spain), Rome (Italy) or Athens (Greece). You will find contact details on the website www.norway.no.

Certain applicants may apply for permits after arrival in Norway. You will find further details on who this may concern in the circular from UDI

Please note: Applying after arrival in Norway requires that the applicant is holding a valid Schengen visa/valid residence permit for the Schengen area, or that the applicant does not need a visa for Norway.
