There are seven Norwegian Honorary Consuls supporting the Embassy in Pretoria. Two are based in South Africa and the remaining five are in Madagascar, Namibia, Botswana and Lesotho.
Honorary Consuls are appointed by the Norwegian Government, but are often nationals of the host country.
The Consuls have agreed to represent Norway in their region on a voluntary basis. Their main task is to promote Norwegian interests and further the co-operation between Norway and the host country in their region.
The Honorary Consules often have interaction with Norway through their day-to-day business, and can provide advice and assistance in relation to Norwegian authorities, institutions or individuals. They can also provide assistance and advice to Norwegians in their interaction with the host country.
Our other embassies in the region (Maputo, Lusaka, Lilongwe, Luanda) also have Consuls assisting them.
