As the five new trainees are settling both in New York and the offices, they are eager to get started working with their mentors.
–I wanted to apply for a trainee position at the Mission to the UN, because it is a great opportunity to learn more about one of the world’s most important organisations and Norway’s role in the international system, says Ingvild Brox Brodtkorb (23).
The trainees for the spring 2019 are:
Ingvild Brox Brodtkorb (23) from Bærum holds a Bachelor’s degree in Global Development and International Relations from Stockholm University. Ingvild wrote her Bachelor’s thesis on peace operations in Congo and has previously had an internship with the Norwegian Refugee Council. She will be working with peace and security issues, focusing on the Security Council and Peacebuilding Commission.
Heidi Kilemo (26) from Nesodden is a Master’s student at the University of Oslo, studying Political Science. Heidi has spent a semester studying in Brisbane, Australia. She will work with development issues with a focus on economics, education and least developed countries.
Siri Birkeland (26) from Harstad is studying at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) where she is taking a Master’s degree in International Relations. She was in New York for her undergraduate studies and is happy to return to her favourite city. Siri will work with development issues, focusing on humanitarian affairs, climate and environment and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Henning Meidel Johnsen (24) from Svolvær is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Law at The Arctic University of Norway (UiT). As a true Norwegian, Henning loves cross-country skiing and has previously lived in Austria to pursue this passion before attending university. Henning will be working with legal issues, including law of the sea, counter-terrorism and the International Criminal Court.
Ingvil Østhassel (22) from Sandefjord is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science at the University of Oslo. Ingvil has served in the Norwegian Armed Forces and studied in Ecuador and North Carolina. She will be working with Press and Communications.
Martin Emil Smith (28) from Bergen is a cadet at the Norwegian Military Academy. Martin will be working with peace and security issues, focusing his efforts on military affairs where he will work closely with the military advisors at the delegation.
