The annual commission will take place from 6 to 17 March 2023 in the UN Headquarter. The theme for this year is ‘innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.’
The official Norwegian delegation will be led by Minister of Culture and Equality, Anette Trettebergstuen, and comprises delegates from Government, civil society and the corporate sector. In addition, a large number of participants from Norwegian public sector and civil society will attend.
“The CSW is instrumental in promoting women`s rights and gender equality. Norway is actively engaged in efforts to prevent setbacks for women and girls around the world. We look forward to contributing to a strongest possible outcome of this year’s commission”, the Minister said.
She points out that only one in three positions in the technology sector are occupied by women.
“Innovation and technological development present new opportunities for women to participate in politics and economics. But it can also widen the gender gap. The inclusion and encouragement of women in the technology sector is critical in order to achieve gender equality”, Trettebergstuen said.
Since 1995, the CSW`s main task has been to monitor and contribute to the implementation of the action plan from the UNs World Conference on Women in Beijing.
