Entry/Exit System – a new border control system in the Schengen area

The Entry/Exit System (EES), a new European border management system, will start operations on 12 October 2025.

EES will be implemented gradually in Norway and will be operated at certain border crossing points from October 12. The first location to start up is Oslo airport Gardermoen.

From October 12 and for the next 180 days, nationals of third countries travelling to Norway can expect to be registered or controlled in the EES. By the 180th day EES will be part of the border control for all third country nationals at all Schengen area border crossing points.

A third-country national is a person who is not a citizen of an EU or EEA country – that is, someone from a country outside this area.
