Winter Newsletter 2025

| Shanghai

Greetings from the Consul General Tobias F. Svenningsen

Dear Norwegian compatriots and all friends of Norway in Shanghai and East China! I wish you all success and happiness for the year of the snake!  It has already proven to be a turbulent year for international politics and trade. Here at the Consulate General we will continue to work for Norwegian interests in East China, in business, in culture and for people-to-people contacts.

In 2024 I had the pleasure to visit several provinces. I visited Fujian, that has come back to CG Shanghai after being some years under CG Guangzhou. I also visited Jianxi and Zhejiang and had the pleasure of visiting Norwegian companies and learn about their activities in China. I am looking forward to the next visits that will be to Jiangsu and Anhui.

Spring is in the air, and the summer holiday season will arrive fast. Do not forget to check the validity of your passports, especially for the children. Apply for a new passport early to avoid problems. Many countries demand that a passport has to be valid for at least 6 months after entry to their country.

After a quiet winter season, the agenda is starting to fill up again. Already next week there is a lecture at Fudan university with the CEO from Snøhetta! There are still spots available, so please register!

Last remarks

This month we said goodbye to our intern Caroline. Caroline has been a great resource for the Consulate during her months as an intern. It was a great pleasure to work with her and benefit from her insights and good spirit. We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours!

After Chinese New Year we welcomed our new intern, Audun. Audun has recently graduated with a bachelor's degree from NHH Norwegian School of Economics and has studied Chinese at Peking University. We look forward to having him in our team until July 2024.

We also welcomed our new employee Feifei. Feifei joined the Norwegian Consulate in Shanghai as a Project Officer for Business and Innovation, working mainly on ocean, climate, and Arctic-related initiatives. Before joining the team, she spent 14 years at the Canadian Consulate in Shanghai and the Canadian Embassy in Beijing. Her experience also includes working with Colleges and Institutes Canada in Ottawa and the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business in Shanghai.
