Vacant position: Administrative and consular officer

The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Algiers is recruiting a full-time administrative officer, starting March 2026. We are looking for a trustworthy person who is organized, safety-conscious and will represent Norway with a professional approach. Responsibilities include administrative and consular affairs.

The Embassy has 12 employees, 3 posted diplomats from Norway and 9 locally employed. The Chancellery is situated in Ben Aknoun and is collocated with the Danish Embassy.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Process consular cases
  • Provide customer service in person, by email and telephone
  • Coordinate with the Norwegian Honorary Consulate in Tunis
  • Coordinate requests with various Norwegian, Algerian and other public authorities
  • Assist in other office and administrative tasks
  • The Head of Mission may amend the content of the position as required.

 

Qualifications

  • Preferably minimum 3 years' work experience in a relevant field
  • Experience or studies related to administrative/office work is an advantage
  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office and other digital platforms
  • Fluency in English, French and Arabic, both written and oral
  • Good knowledge of Algerian immigration law and matters to be able to provide advice to Norwegian citizens
  • Work experience from an international working environment within service and/or office administration, or from public administration, is an advantage
  • Knowledge of Norwegian or other Scandinavian languages is considered an asset

Terms and conditions

  • Working hours from 08:30-16:00, 37,5 hours per week, Sunday to Thursday
  • There will occasionally be a requirement to perform extra hours due to Embassy activity during evenings and weekends. Extra hours will be compensated accordingly to Algerian Law
  • Trial period of 6 months
  • Taxable to Algeria
