The Embassy in London is one of Norway's largest foreign service missions. We are about 40 employees divided into the following teams: political and economic team, arts and communication team, administration team and consular affairs team.
The Norwegian Embassy offers a dynamic and interdisciplinary work environment. The Embassy is in Belgravia in Central London.
The vacant position is as a Consular Officer. As a Consular Officer, you’ll play a vital role in delivering essential services to Norwegian citizens and visa applicants, while representing Norway. You will be part of a team of Consular Officers, and the position combines administrative precision, public service, and international cooperation.
Duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Receive and process applications at the Consular and Visa Section’s reception during opening hours
- Register and prepare applications for Norwegian passports, Schengen visas, and residence permits
- Conduct interviews and collect DNA samples when required
- Organize and file consular and visa cases
- Handle notarial matters
- Handle email enquiries regarding consular and visa affairs
- Communicate with British and Norwegian authorities on consular matter
- Assist Norwegian citizens, including prison cases, cases involving minors, deaths, and destitute citizens
- Support general consular operations as needed
- Contribute to a collaborative team environment
- Other tasks may be added to your duties and responsibilities
Qualifications
- Essential criteria
- Fluency (written and oral) in English.
- Good knowledge of computer applications.
- Relevant higher education (e.g. university degree). Long and relevant experience may compensate for higher education.
- Desirable criteria
- Good knowledge of legal framework.
- Previous experience in related field (immigration, consular, administrative affairs).
- Good knowledge of Norwegian.

Terms and conditions
- Full time temporary position until end of June 2026. There is a possibility that the position will become permanent from mid-February 2026, depending on whether the position itself is made permanent.
- Salary starting at £40 000 gross per year depending on experience and skills.
- Working days: Monday to Friday 09:00 am to 4:30 pm.
- Workplace: Norwegian Embassy, 25 Belgrave Square, London SW1X 8 QD.
- If not a UK citizen, the successful candidates must hold a valid residency/right to work in the UK.
- Commencement date: January 2025
