Travel Advisory: Ebola Prevention Measures for Travellers to Tanzania

Following the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and a recent case in Kenya of a patient traveling from the DRC, the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania (URT) has expanded its public health requirement related to international travel for incoming travelers in line with the International Health Regulations (2005) as amended in 2024, and the Tanzania Public Health Act of 2009.

The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania has issued Travel Advisory No. 18 of 17 October 2026 to strengthen public health measures following the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and a recent related case reported in Kenya. [TRAVEL ADVISORY | PDF]

The advisory, issued by the Ministry of Health, introduces enhanced screening and monitoring measures for travellers entering Tanzania.

Key measures include:

  • Completion of the online Traveller's Health Surveillance Form before departure or upon arrival through the AfyaMsafiri portal.
  • Health screening, including temperature checks, at all points of entry.
  • Provision of health information and guidance on self-monitoring for Ebola symptoms.
  • Follow-up monitoring of high-risk travellers for 21 days.
  • Mandatory adherence to infection prevention and control measures.
  • Decontamination procedures for any suspected contaminated conveyances.

Travellers are advised to cooperate with health authorities and comply with all public health requirements. Those departing Tanzania should also ensure they meet the entry requirements of their destination or transit countries.
