Storting and Sami parliamentary elections 2025

The 2025 Parliamentary and Sami Parliamentary Election will be held on Monday 8th September. If you are residing abroad on election day, you can vote in advance between Tuesday 1st July and Friday 29th August 29th.

You can vote in advance at the Norwegian embassy in Abuja or at our honorary Consulate in Lagos, Yaounde and Benin. You can contact the embassy directly by email consular.abuja@mfa.no or phone number +2348139890050.

The Norwegian embassy in Abuja are open for voting in advance during our regular opening hours:

  • Mondays: 12:00noon - 2:00pm
  • Tuesdays: 12:00noon - 2:00pm
  • Wednesdays: 12:00noon - 2:00pm
  • Thursdays: 12:00noon - 2:00pm

It is necessary to book an appointment in advance to be able to vote

Who can vote?

You have the right to vote in the 2025 Parliamentary election if you

  • are a Norwegian citizen
  • are 18 years old or older by the end of 2025
  • are or have been registered as a resident in Norway

If you have been residing abroad for 10 years or more, you no longer have to apply to re-register in the National Population Register. When your vote is approved by the municipality you were last registered as residing in, they will register you in the National Population Register at the same time.

You must have a valid ID to vote. Your ID must specify your name, date of birth, and display a photo of you.

Voting by mail

Voters abroad who are unable to get to a polling station can vote by mail. You can order official voting materials from the embassy in (NAME) at (email) or (phone number).

Voters who vote by mail are personally responsible for making sure they send their vote early enough for it to arrive in the correct municipality in Norway by 17:00 on Tuesday 9th September.

Voting at the Sámi Parliament Election

The Sámi Parliament Election is held at the same time as the parliamentary election.

Every Sámi that is registered in the Sámi Parliamentary Election Register by midnight 30th June, has the right to vote at the Sami Parliament Election.
