Norway’s Ambassador becomes a Gender Champion

Ambassador Mørch Smith is now part of the International Gender Champion network, committing to breaking down gender barriers.

The International Gender Champion (IGC) network consists of 250 leaders from more than 60 countries. Each champion takes a gender parity pledge, and articulates personal gender champion commitments. Read more on the IGC pages.

Mørch Smith has committed to promoting gender responsive approaches in partner organizations’ normative and operational work. As part of this, she will emphasize integration of key messages related to women’s rights; sexual and reproductive health and rights; women, peace and security; and combating sexual and gender based violence, in all relevant work of the Mission.

Furthermore, she will encourage Geneva headquartered partner organizations to promote gender balance and work-life balance at all levels, and request regular updates on plans and resources allocated to prevent and respond to sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment.

-Including a gender perspective is key to ensure we approach complex problems in their totality, and that we do not ignore the rights or needs of any one group, says Mørch Smith. -Only by taking a gendered approach will we be effective in promoting peace, stability and economic impact for society at large.
