Thank you very much Mr. Vice-President,

Norway recognizes Georgia’s engagement with the UPR process. We are, however, concerned by the grave deterioration of the human rights situation, including widespread repression, restrictions on civil and political rights, and persistent discrimination against women and vulnerable groups.

Norway recommends that Georgia:

  1. Immediately and unconditionally release all those unjustly imprisoned, and carry out prompt investigations into the excessive use of force against protesters, and uphold the right to peaceful assembly and protest;

  2. Ensure a safe and enabling environment for human rights defenders, media, and civil society to carry out their legitimate activities, free from intimidation, reprisals, or undue restrictions;

  3. Repeal the Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence, the Foreign Agents Registration Act, and amendments to the Law on Grants and withdraw the appeal to ban political parties;

  4. Repeal the “Law on Family Values and Protection of Minors” and take measures to combat hate speech and violence against LGBT+ persons.

Thank you.
