Thank you, and a warm welcome to the Austrian delegation and thank you for the report.
President,
Norway welcomes Austria’s efforts in the fight against hate crime and hate speech, improving involvement of civil society, and alleviating overcrowding in the penitentiary system. We believe that further progress can be made in certain areas.
Norway recommends that Austria:
- Ensure the adoption of a “Only Yes Means Yes” consent law to strengthen the legal protection of survivors of sexual violence and promote a shift in societal attitudes;
- Adopt legislation banning the practice of “conversion therapy” related to sexual orientation and gender identity;
- Ensure integrated abortion services in the public health care system and nationwide accessibility, and guarantee that such services are provided free of charge to all residing in Austria;
- Ensure that the right to wear religious clothing and symbols in public spaces is treated equally for all.
Thank you.
