Thank you Vice President,

Norway thanks the delegation of Kenya for its presentation of its report. We congratulates Kenya on its election to the Human Rights Council, and commends
efforts made to abolish the death penalty. However, we remain concerned about the crackdown on peaceful protesters and reports of enforced disappearances last year.

Norway recommends that Kenya:

1. Respect the right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly and take concrete measures to protect those exercising these rights, including human rights defenders, from physical attacks, harassment and intimidation by police.

2. Ratify the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance.

3. Eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls including harmful practices such as child marriage and female genital mutilation.

4. Ensure the rights of LGBT+ persons and prevent discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Thank you
