Vice President,

Norway welcomes Mexico’s multilateral human rights engagement, but we remain concerned about high levels of violence and impunity.

Norway recommends that Mexico:

  1. Guarantees the safety of human rights defenders and journalists by combating impunity for crimes against these groups and by developing effective policies for prevention and protection.

  2. Combats enforced disappearances, in particular by coordinating with the Prosecutor General’s Office to secure the operation of the National Forensic Data Bank, and to improve human identification through the matching of fingerprints with the National Electoral Institute.

  3. Combats violence against women and ensures adequate protective measures.

  4. Continues to secure access to safe abortion for all women by removing the crime of abortion from the federal and state penal codes in line with the decisions of the Supreme Court.

Thank you
