Convention on Cluster Munitions: Inter sessional Meeting 2014

Let me congratulate the states that recently have concluded their stockpile destruction obligations and that well within their deadlines. This reinforces the positive trend that we have observed for some time, where states parties have demonstrated a willingness and an ability to destroy their stockpiles faster than previously anticipated.

We note that some States have relatively small numbers of older cluster munitions in store. States Parties and other actors involved in supporting implementation of the CCM, should look into how these can be destroyed in a safe and cost-efficient manner. Norway has supported the NPA SHADOW approach, which may facilitate expeditious destruction of such limited stockpiles.

Norway would encourage all states with small stockpiles to seek assistance and cooperation from other states to secure their destruction.
