As we have reached the end of a long process, we want to thank colleagues- and especially the penholder, France - for our discussions, which facilitated this possibility for continued support by MINUSCA to the Central African Republic.
We decided to vote in favour because of the importance of backing the mission, and the SRSG's support for peace and progress in CAR.
As always, the Troop and Police Contributing Countries are the critical components for this to even be possible.
We want to take a moment to thank them all again profoundly – and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the UN in CAR.
We see it as our responsibility as a Security Council member to not just send UN personnel to help in CAR -- but also to send signals in the interest of ensuring their safety and security while carrying out their tough and important job.
Including through availability of quick casevac’s by air when needed.
