Chair,
Norway supports the statement delivered by the delegation of Ukraine on behalf of a group of states under this agenda item. In addition, in our national capacity, Norway is pleased to take the floor, as co-sponsor of the resolution on the Report of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
The IAEA continues to play a vital and irreplaceable role in upholding the international non-proliferation regime, strengthening nuclear safety and security, ensuring robust verification and safeguards, and promoting peaceful use of nuclear technology.
These efforts are essential for maintaining international peace and stability and they contribute to sustainable development. Norway commends the Agency for its
professionalism, impartiality, and technical excellence.
On the country files, we would especially like to thank the IAEA for keeping under its
consideration the issue of the NPT Safeguards Agreement with Iran and the quarterly reports on verification and monitoring considering United Nations Security Council resolution 2231.
We commend the Director General and his team for their strong commitment to nuclear
safety and security in Ukraine. The IAEA’s support and assistance missions in Ukraine
provide crucial information and assessments. We are grateful for their efforts as well as
the hard work of the Ukrainian personnel under extreme conditions. We are pleased to be one of the member states contributing financially to the Agency’s efforts in Ukraine.
We welcome the IAEA’s contributions to sustainable development through its many flagship initiatives.
These programs demonstrate how nuclear science can be harnessed to address
agricultural development, global health challenges and plastic pollution, particularly in
regions most in need. Nuclear technologies are instrumental in achieving the Sustainable Developments Goals. The IAEA is a key facilitator in this respect.
Norway also appreciates the IAEA’s dedication to inclusive participation, technical
cooperation, and capacity-building. We reaffirm our full confidence in the Agency’s
mandate and governance.
This resolution on the Report of the International Atomic Energy Agency reflects the shared commitment of Member States to support its mission. Norway encourages continued engagement and co-sponsorship to ensure that the Agency’s work remains robust and effective.
In closing, let me reiterate: Norway stands firmly behind the IAEA and this resolution. We remain committed to supporting its efforts for peace, development, and nuclear safety and security.
Thank you.
