Statement on DPRK by E10

Joint statement on DPRK by the elected members of the UN Security Council, 4 November 2022.

The statement was delivered by the UN Ambassador of Albania

I’m making this statement on behalf of the ten elected members of the Security Council regarding the recent missile launches by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

The E10 members condemn all these ballistic missiles launches by DPRK in violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions, which threaten regional and international peace and security.

We express our concern regarding the high number of launches in recent times. The E10 members especially deplore the risk posed to civilians by the recent long-range tests, mindful of the inherent dangers of missile testing to populated areas as well as to maritime and air safety.

The E10 members call on the DPRK to fully respect and comply with its obligations under the Security Council resolutions and refrain from further ballistic missile launches. We request the DPRK to return to compliance with the NPT and IAEA safeguards. The E10 members are deeply concerned by the DPRKs continued development of its nuclear and ballistic programmes and calls on the DPRK to halt all such activities.

The E10 members reiterate their commitment to diplomacy and dialogue, and urge all actors to work toward the resumption of constructive and credible dialogue.
The E10 members state the importance of addressing the proliferation of nuclear and missile technologies as it threatens regional and international peace and security.

The E10 members believe that the Security Council should speak with a unified voice on this matter.
