'UNEP has an important role to play in ensuring that environmental concerns are properly integrated into the Sustainable Development Goals. This agreement will ensure that Norway continues to be one of UNEP's key supporters,' Mr Brende said.
The agreement was signed in Nairobi, where UNEP has its headquarters, during Foreign Minister Brende's visit to Kenya. Under the agreement, Norway will provide NOK 270 million to UNEP over the period 2016 to 2018. The funding will be used to strengthen UNEP's efforts to address the problem of marine litter and microplastics, to build resilience to conflicts and disasters, and to combat environmental crime.
