Travels to Svalbard

Svalbard is not part of the Schengen area even though Svalbard is a part of the Kingdom of Norway.

If you need a visa to the Schengen area, you will need a visa to travel to Svalbard as you will most likely have to enter the Schengen area during your travel to Svalbard. Because of this, it is important that you apply for 2 or more entries when you apply for a Schengen visa and submit information about your plans to visit Svalbard.

You do not need a separate visa or residence permit to be allowed to visit or stay on Svalbard. However, there are certain requirements you must satisfy to be able to reside there.
