Thank You and Goodbye-Closure and relocation of Visa Section

The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Accra’s Visa Section officially closed and relocated to the Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya from 31st July 2025.

The visa section in Accra was established in May 2012 and became the visa hub for West Africa from August 1, 2018, covering 21 countries in the West Africa region. During the 13 years of operation we have seen an increase in visa applications from 750 yearly applications when the visa section opened to 4 500 applications in 2024. In total, the visa section has handled approximately 27 000 cases.

After 13 years of service, the time has now come for us to say Thank You, Goodbye and Good luck to our colleagues who have contributed tremendously to the Visa Section.

"It has been a wonderful experience living and working in Ghana and West Africa. I have been fortunate to travel and visit many of the countries in the region and to experience the cultures and lovely people of West Africa."
- Karen Torvund, Head of Visa.

We celebrated the visa team with a Farewell lunch, thanking them for their service and wishing them all the best in their future journeys!

The Norwegian Embassy in Nairobi is now responsible for all short-stay visa and residence permit applications from West Africa.
You can still submit your applications at the VFS Global locations in Ghana (Accra), Côte d'Ivoire (Abidjan), Senegal (Dakar), Nigeria (Abuja, Lagos), and Cameroon (Yaoundé) as before.
