The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Tokyo is looking for a proactive, service-minded, and flexible colleague to join our Press, Culture and Information team as a Cultural and Information Officer. This is a diverse position covering public diplomacy, communications, day-to-day work, and Embassy operations.

In this role, you will contribute to strengthening Norway’s visibility, engagement, and profile in Japan through cultural initiatives, media outreach, and public diplomacy efforts. You will work closely with diplomats and other colleagues to support events, visits, and communication activities, while also assisting with practical and administrative tasks that keep the Embassy running smoothly.

We are seeking someone who enjoys a busy environment and is confident supporting high-level events and official visits, engaging with partners, managing practical tasks, and contributing to a professional and welcoming presence of the Embassy. The ideal candidate has strong digital skills and the ability to apply them effectively in their daily work.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Plan, create, and publish social media content, including text, translation, and basic image and video editing.
  • Monitor press and social media daily and gathering key updates from Norway and Japan across culture, academia, society, and politics.
  • Develop and maintain the Embassy’s media, cultural, and professional networks in Japan and Norway, including institutions, organizations, friendship groups, and academia.
  • Manage and support the planning and delivery of receptions, seminars, networking events, cultural programs, and official visits.
  • Coordinate communications and press for high-level visits, including media arrangements, and serve as the main contact point when required.
  • Support press and expert visits to Norwegian festivals and events, including related grant management.
  • Handle media inquiries and coverage related to Norway and give presentations about Japan and Norway to visiting delegations and school groups.
  • Coordinate with the MFA Communication Unit, manage Embassy social media platforms and the Norway Portal, handle daily operations, including inquiries, translation/interpretation, upkeep of technical equipment, promotional materials, and general administrative support.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Relevant educational background, preferably at academic level (B.A. or higher)
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Japanese native speaking level
  • English fluency, both oral and written
  • Must have legal right to reside and work in Japan

We offer:

【Work hours】: 09:00-17:00 Monday-Friday. Overtime compensated according to local law and embassy regulations.
