5月17日はノルウェーの憲法記念日です。1814年5月17日にノルウェー憲法が制定され、独立国家としてノルウェーの近代民主主義の礎が築かれました。これを記念し、ナショナルデーとして国を挙げてこの日を祝います。

ナショナルデーはノルウェーの人々にとって、喜びと伝統ならびに誇らしい気持ちに満たされる日。歴史と未来を祝う気持ちで繋がります。子どもたちによるパレードが祝賀行事の中心となり、「子どもの日」としても知られています。ノルウェー国旗を手に国歌を歌いながら子どものパレードが行われます。オスロではパレードは王宮の前を通過するのが恒例です。多くの人が民族衣装（ブーナッド）を着用し、お祝い行事に華やかな彩りを添えます。

お祝いの日に用意される食べ物には、ポルセ・イ・ロンペ（ジャガイモ粉パンケーキで包んだホットドッグ）、ロンメグロット（サワークリームのお粥）、クヴェフィヨルドケーキ（メレンゲケーキ）やパブロバ（フルーツを添えたケーキ）などのデザートが定番として登場します。この日は好きなだけホットドッグとアイスクリームを食べてもよしとされ、子どもたちの大きな楽しみの一つです。

パレードのあと子どもたちは学校に集いゲームに興じます。ささやかな賞品とこの日に欠かせないアイスクリーム付き。また早朝からブラスバンドの生徒による音楽演奏が行われ、日が暮れるまで賑やかなお祝いが続きます。

Norwegian National Day, celebrated on May 17^th, marks the anniversary of the signing of the Norwegian Constitution in 1814 which established Norway as an independent kingdom and laid the foundation for our modern democracy.

May 17^th is a day of joy, tradition, and national pride, bringing Norwegians together to celebrate their history and future. This day is also known as ‘the day of the children’ because the children’s parades are a central part of the celebration. Schoolchildren wave Norwegian flags and sing patriotic songs, also in front of the Royal Palace. People wear traditional bunads (national costume), adding a colorful touch to the festivities.

Food is central to the celebrations, with dishes like "pølse i lompe" (hot dogs wrapped in potato pancakes), "rømmegrøt" (sour cream porridge), and desserts like Kvæfjordkake and pavlova. Children are encouraged to eat as many hot dogs and as much ice cream as they can, the whole day.

After the children's parade, schools around the country arrange children’s games, where you can win small prizes and eat ice cream. From early morning, school-bands will walk around and play traditional music. Everybody celebrates until the sun goes down.
