Afghanistan discussion and exhibition

Return challenges for displaced Afghans

Ahead of the Geneva Ministerial Conference for Afghanistan, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) and the Permanent Mission of Norway to the UN in Geneva are pleased to invite you to a panel discussion on Afghan displacement, followed by an opening of the exhibition “Unsettled: Three Years Documenting Afghanson the Move”.

Experts will discuss how best to address some of the
key challenges associated with return to Afghanistan
today. These include the risk of secondary
displacement, weak prospects of long-term reintegration
and ongoing protection risks. We will ask how both
humanitarian and development actors can better
coordinate in order to respond to these concerns, and
their linkages with peace.

Photos that will be exhibited are a part of a new
photobook, a culmination of three years of work by
photographer Jim Huylebroek, commissioned by NRC in
Afghanistan. The photos are a compelling visual legacy
of the human stories Jim encountered while meeting
displaced Afghans across the migration trial from
Afghanistan to Germany. This exhibition provides a
unique backdrop for an important discussion about the
personal realities of increasing numbers of
displacement-affected Afghans today.

The event will be concluded with a reception.
