Norway welcomes OHCHR`s partnership with Microsoft

On 16 May 2017, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) announced a five-year partnership with Microsoft. Norway commends the partnership and welcomes the involvement of the private sector in the protection and promotion of human rights for all.

The landmark partnership guarantees a USD 5 million grant from Microsoft to the OHCHR, and facilitates an important focus on the development of technology that can be used in analyzing and responding to human rights violations around the world.

Norway welcomes the positive role technology can play in protecting and promoting human rights, and recognizes the significant potential of tailor-made technological solutions in this regard. We acknowledge Microsoft`s active role in advocating for the implementation of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and encourage other private sector organizations to follow suit.
