President,
Norway commends Mongolia’s efforts to strengthen legal protection of human rights defenders, to implement a national mechanism for the prevention of torture, and to adopt the 2022 Law on Labour and Sexual Harassment. However, we remain concerned about /[the human rights situation.]/ [reports of corruption within the judiciary, limited transparency in legal proceedings, and insufficient access to legal aid for vulnerable groups.]
Norway recommends that Mongolia:
- Intensify efforts to combat corruption within the judiciary by accelerating the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Program.
- Strengthen rule of law by ensuring access to legal aid and justice for vulnerable groups, including rural populations, women, persons with disabilities, and minorities.
- Enhance the protection of girls and women from gender-based violence by adopting further measures to implement a prevention and response plan.
Thank you.
