President,

Norway commends Mongolia’s efforts to strengthen legal protection of human rights defenders, to implement a national mechanism for the prevention of torture, and to adopt the 2022 Law on Labour and Sexual Harassment.  However, we remain concerned about /[the human rights situation.]/ [reports of corruption within the judiciary, limited transparency in legal proceedings, and insufficient access to legal aid for vulnerable groups.]

Norway recommends that Mongolia:

  1. Intensify efforts to combat corruption within the judiciary by accelerating the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Program.

  2. Strengthen rule of law by ensuring access to legal aid and justice for vulnerable groups, including rural populations, women, persons with disabilities, and minorities.

  3. Enhance the protection of girls and women from gender-based violence by adopting further measures to implement a prevention and response plan.

Thank you.
