President,
Norway acknowledges Croatia’s progress in human rights but calls for stronger measures to safeguard freedom of press, judicial independence, combat corruption and protect minority rights.
Norway recommends that Croatia:
- Respect the right to freedom of expression and media independence, including by protecting journalists from harassment and violence, and ensuring transparency in media ownership.
- Ensure full implementation of anti-discrimination laws, particularly to protect ethnic minorities, women and the LGBT+ persons, and promote equality through education and public awareness campaigns.
- Improve conditions for prisoners in detention, including reducing overcrowding, ensuring adequate access to healthcare, and strengthening rehabilitation and reintegration measures into society.
- Strengthen efforts to prevent and combat corruption by ensuring independent and effective oversight institutions and accountability of public officials.
Thank you.
