STATEMENT
In context of the 44th UPR Session of the Human Rights Council on the human rights situation in Colombia, Norway prepared the following statement.
Let me start by welcoming the determination of the Colombian government to improve the human rights situation in the country. We commend the peace efforts, including the ambition of total peace, which represent a unique and very significant opportunity to strengthen the human rights situation in Colombia.
Norway recommends that Colombia take further measures to ensure the full protection of ex-combatants.
Norway recommends that Colombia takes concrete measures to prevent and investigate all attacks against human rights defenders and bring those responsible to justice.
Furthermore, Norway recommends that Colombia takes concrete measures to prevent and protect women from domestic violence and hold perpetrators to account. We also encourage Colombia to finalise the national action plan for implementing resolution 1325 on women and peace and security.
Finally, Norway recommends that Colombia continues to take measures to ensure non-discrimination against LGBTQI+persons.
Thank you.
