Statement to Libya

Thank you, Mr. President.

Norway thanks the Libyan delegation for presenting its national report, and for its participation in the UPR-process.

Libya, and the Libyan people, are currently experiencing exceptional circumstances and challenges.

Norway is deeply concerned by credible reports noting that militias and other armed forces have committed possible war crimes, as well as other serious violations of international humanitarian law and human rights abuses.

We strongly urge all parties to the ongoing conflict to respect international human rights law and international humanitarian law.

We urge the opposing camps in Libya to fully support, and engage in, the UN-initiated Libyan political process, also taking into account the ongoing discussions taking place under the framework of the Security Council in New York

Specifically, a final agreement must retain a commitment by all parties to act in accordance with the principles of international human rights law and international humanitarian law.
