Recommendations to Qatar (12.11.2024)

Norway acknowledge Qatar’s progress on foreign workers rights. However, we still have concerns regarding women’s rights, and freedom of speech [, as well as the use of capital punishment].

 

Norway recommends that Qatar:

 

  1. Takes adequate steps to combat the discrimination against women and [withdraws its reservation and] fully aligns its national laws to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.

  2. Ensures the rights to freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly, and ensures that civil society, human rights defenders and journalists can operate freely without fear of reprisals.

  3. Ensures that workers’ rights, including domestic workers, are fully implemented in private and public sector [, while fostering cooperation between authorities, business, international organizations, and civil society].

  4. Establishes a moratorium on executions, working towards the repeal of the death penalty.
