President,
As it draws to a close, Norway expresses its appreciation for the constructive engagement during this session to sharpen the focus of our work at the Council.
Resource constraints are putting us all to the test. Careful consideration of initiatives, sequencing, substantive asks and possible duplication, is instrumental to preserving its effectiveness.
More is needed. Further efforts to manage the complexity of our workload will allow us to keep striving for our common goal: To ensure that norms translate into reality for rights-holders.
The Council – we – must strive for greater coherence, efficiency, and impact. Norway strongly supports efforts to streamline, rationalize and enhance synergies to ensure that the Council and our resources are used strategically.
We thank the President, the bureau, and Spain and Thailand, for their thoughtful guidance.
We reiterate our concern over the liquidity crisis and its impact on the UN human rights system. Paying assessed contributions in full and on time is crucial. Core support to OHCHR is vital for safeguarding independence, integrity and flexibility.
We end by thanking all colleagues for working together in keeping this Council a relevant and vibrant part of the UN.
This session has reaffirmed its role in addressing violations, promoting accountability and justice. We warmly welcome the adoption of key mandates, including those seized of grave country situations.
Thank you
