59nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty.
Statement delivered by H.E Ambassador Riia Salsa-Audiffren on behalf of the Nordic-Baltic countries: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.
23 July 2025
Mr President,
I have the honour to speak on behalf of the Nordic-Baltic countries.
We thank the Special Rapporteur for his report.
We recognize the critical role of social protection in strengthening resilience and reducing vulnerabilities, particularly among those most affected by the impacts of climate change.
We acknowledge the need for joint action to strengthen social protection systems. Strengthening social protection can also ensure that climate finance truly benefits those who need it the most. The upcoming Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development and the Second World Summit for Social Development are crucial opportunities to address the need for predictable, long-term financing to empower those in vulnerable situations.
We are committed to integrating human rights principles into climate action, ensuring that adaptation measures are inclusive, gender-responsive, and accessible to those most at risk.
Special Rapporteur, what are the most effective ways to strengthen awareness among policymakers and stakeholders about the benefits of human rights-based social protection floors for climate resilience?
I thank you!
