Item 10.6: Antimicrobial drug resistance

Chair,

Norway thanks the Secretariat for the report on this important subject.

Antimicrobial resistance is a serious emerging threat to public health. It is important to give WHO a clear mandate to start work in order to counter this threat.

We underline the need for a one-health approach to AMR, and that the WHO works together with FAO and OIE in order to ensure progress across all areas.

Norway recognizes the uneven distribution of antimicrobial resistance across the regions of the WHO. And that a sustainable approach to AMR would have to comprise both a continued focus on access to antimicrobial medical products for some Member States, while others need to scale up their focus on how these medical products are used.

Norway wants to co-sponsor this resolution.

Thank you.
