Norway's statement on Iran/Middle East.

22 June 2025 - ‘Norway is deeply concerned about the escalation of the war in the Middle East, following the U.S. attack on Iranian nuclear facilities last night. It is regrettable that efforts to find a diplomatic solution and a new nuclear agreement with Iran have not succeeded, ’ said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

‘Norway shares the concern over Iran’s nuclear program. The international community has long sought to ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons. This would constitute a serious breach of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, ’ said Mr Støre.

‘Norway’s position has consistently been to support efforts for diplomacy and negotiations, in order to prevent further acts of war and devastating military attacks that also affect civilians on both sides. This conflict has no military solution. International law must be respected by all parties, even in this war. Last night’s attack does not eliminate the need for a lasting agreement in the long run, although it will now be even more difficult to achieve, ’ said Mr Støre.
